All I can say is O.M.Goodness!  The Julie Je t'aime paper line from Quick Quotes is stunning!  Your page will just put itself together.  LOVE that Dusty Attic frame!!!  I painted it, misted it and then embossed it in random places.  I wanted to grunge it up a bit so that it matched the paper.

I added one of Quick Quotes' instant quotes (phew, that was a lot to say LOL) and it gives my page that little something-something it was looking for. 

So get this...not only did I get this phenomenal paper to work with, but I also received some of my mooooooost favorite flowers; the Glittered Fleurs and Canterbury Naturals!!!  *somebody fan me* LOL  Aren't those colors yummy?!

  

I know!  Chistmas!!!  *runs screaming out of the room*  I can't help it.  I'm going to let you in on a secret....... blue, plum and sparkly are my 3 favorite Christmas colors!  When I took a look at the flowers and paper I knew that I needed to make a winter time page.

I took a few strips of paper that I had trimmed and created a braid with it. 

YUM!!!  Look at those little Canterbury Forget Me Nots just dripping down the page. Gorgeous!

 

I finished off my page by decorating this spray with sparkly snowflakes and more yummy flowers.

Hope Chest - featuring Petaloo

Soooooo, I got my hands on Glitz's new paper line, Beautiful Dreamer and I knew immediately that flowers from Petaloo's Devon collection would be perfect!  This is my loose interpretation of the September sketch from Flying Unicorn.  Did you know that Petaloo's Devon collection of flowers is made from recycled cotton and silk?  How cool is that?!  I chose the Bristol flowers in white, pink and fuschia.  They really look perfect with this paper.

I chose to use a dress form made by Dusty Attic to keep with my girly theme.  I painted it using an Adirondack Paint Dabber in Snow Cap.  Then I used a "stone wall" stamp to give my clock rub on from 7 Gypsies a background and some depth. I glued a small black feather to where a dress bussel would normally be.  I finished it off by hugging it with more Bristol flowers.  

I really love the nested frames and corner bracket from Dusty Attic.  I painted both the nested frame and the corner bracket in Snow Cap.  Then I used Tattered Rose Distress Paint on the frame and finished it off by lightly embossing it with Bridal Embossing powder by Ranger.  When you emboss over crackle paint it really emphasizes the texture made by the crackle.  I used some Chestnut Roan to highlight some of the edges on the bracket and then embossed that as well.

I have these kraft envelopes in my stash that have been jumping out of my drawer begging to be used!  I first lightly painted it using Snow Cap.  Then I misted over it with a golden walnut colored mist whose name escapes me at the moment LOL.  I let the mist pool up and then let it soak in and dry on its own.  Adirondack's paint dabbers act as a resist so you really need to be patient and not mess with the mist.  It won't all sink in, but it gave me enough of a tint that I was happy with it.  After it dried I crinkled it up a bit and broke down some of the paper fibers making sure to give myself some wrinkles.  I used some Vintage Photo Distress Ink to highlight the edges and wrinkles.  I then used some Memento ink and a few small stamps to give the envelope some additional visual interest.  Finally I added some lace and a metal butterfly and I was done.

New Petaloo!

Color me excited when I received some new Petaloo product AND got to have a few of my projects go to CHA!  Seriously, you could have knocked me over with a feather.  Here are my projects that got to attend CHA.

Alright.  I'll admit it.  I LOVE the Chantilly Velvet Mini Blossoms.  They are perfect for filling in spaces in your flower clusters and for the leading edge of a vine.  On this page I used the velvet minis in blue.  The color contrast gave me the perfect "pop" for the muted tans and greens of the Graphic 45 paper I used.

I ran my picture through Photoshop Elements and gave it a high contrast black and white finish.  I then painted, embossed and stickled the Dusty Attic frame to set my photo on.  I also embossed the chipboard wings using Lindy's Stamp Gang Angel Wings Gold and then added some feathers to give the photo a dreamy look.

The mini blooms coordinate so well with the mixed cream flowers also from the Chantilly collection.

 I really love how the vintage paper from Tim Holtz accents perfectly the rich pink hues of the Petaloo Canterbury Glittered Fluers along with my black and white photo.  To me, this has a classic and warm look.  The photo (left to right) is my step-granddaughter, my step-daughter and my daughter.  I really love this photo.

I used some metal to create one of the layers my photo is sitting on.  I ran it through my Cuttlebug and embossed it.  Then I added some rusty hinge alcohol ink to it, warped and curled the edges.  I added some Coordinations paper to the layers.

I really love the Dusty Attic flourishes and skeleton clocks.  I hoard them!  LOL  I treated the flourishes with crackle paint and then embellished them with copper colored pearls.  I once again used some Lindy's Stamp Gang Embossing powder in Byzantine Bronze on the clock.  I only embossed some of the clock because I wanted it to look at little distressed.

Aren't those flowers gorgeous?!  They are just so delicate and sparkly in person.  I wish I had more!

A card maker I am NOT!  But, I'm learning.  LOL  I am so drawn to earthy and vintage looking things.  The textures just draw me in.  Take a look at those Canterbury Forget Me Nots!  They are beyond cute and absolutely perfect for cards.

Check out the Velvet Berry Picks!  Every part of these can be shaped because there is wire under those gorgeous leaves.  Psst!  *whispering*  I have these in green to and OH MY!!!  I just finished a holiday project that uses these and they are perfect for your flower clusters.

Swirlydoos August Kit Reveal and Blog Hop!

Welcome to Poetry en Prose.  This month's kit from Swirlydoos is so full of rich colors.  I love the paper which is from KaiserCraft.  

I had a lot of fun making this page.  A fellow teacher at Miss Arts, Stacey Cohen, taught a class on creating a really cool shadow box.  This is my attempt at creating the shadow box.  I love the dimension and all of the nooks and crannies that lend themselves to having little treasures tucked in all over.  The flowers in the month's add on include Petaloo and Prima.  I had fun embellishing the Dusty Attic Birdcage too!

Those of you the know me and my DD, know that she loves riding the flying swings and I love capturing her pure joy on film every time she comes 'round.  There is something about a carnival that brings up so many great memories; the music, the smells and the kids all laughing and screaming.  Good stuff!  I absolutely love it when a kit not only gives me insanely gorgeous paper, but when I am also given colors that contrast and POP!  Check out those little blue flowers!  AWESOME!

The Technique kit add on was full of resist papers and some fun and funky mist called Inchworm!  LOL  It is that really cool green on the tag.  You have to get some.  Seriously.


This is for the monthly kit sketch that is provided for each month's kit.  I have to be honest here, this is my 2nd attempt at the sketch.  At first I was so inspired by the idea of slicing up a photo and then when it came time to do it...well, nothing was playing along with me.  LOL  I used some of the resist paper that came in our Technique kit.  This is a picture of my DD when we went to visit Boldt Castle last year.  She was sitting on a massive stone bench on the even more massive veranda at the castle.  I found that the picture seemed to get lost by being all sliced up so I added a rhinestone circle to bring attention back to the photo.  She had so much fun exploring the castle that day.

I changed things up a bit with this month's canvas.  My DD wanted me to make one for her so she had a lot of input in creating this.  We designed the dress and she really wanted that Dusty Attic scroll at the top.  She wanted a ponytail...and on and on.  LOL  I had a little trouble with perspective on this, but it's not supposed to be perfect right?!  The dress and the fussy cut flowers came from the kit papers.

Sweet - Round Robin Week 3

Week 3 Round Robin challenge at Swirlydoos.  I was inspired by so many things from the two pages I got to follow.  The design was beautiful.  There were two background papers layered and distressed, there was misting and masking and gorgeous florals.  As usual I did move things around and added my fingerprint to this week's lift. 

I used up the last bit of paper from Swirlydoo's May kit.  I really wanted to try and create depth and dimension to this page.  Rather than layering two backgrounds papers I decided to use this beautiful scalloped chipboard frame from Dusty Attic and cut a second background paper to go most of the way around it.  I used pop dots to glue them down so that they came off of the page and created a shallow shadow box.

I really wanted to stay with soft, warm colors that come from similar pallets.  I decided to paint my chipboard with a base of brown paint.  I went over it in Picket Fence Distress Paint.  Then, I went over it in Vintage Photo Distress ink.  I let that dry for a few minutes then lightly misted it with water and again, let it sit a minute before I wiped it off.  This gave the ink time to sink in to the cracks.  I decided to dry bush the edges with some white paint.

I used a garden gate mask from Tattered Angels and misted it into place.  Camilla Ekman made the first page for our team and she used this.  I really loved the way it looked so I kept it on my lift.

I used my favorite Martha Stewart deep edge punch and added some vintage trim down the center.  I pleated the bottom lace to give it some dimension.

I love this chipboard vine from Dusty Attic.  I misted it in two shades of green then took some smooch paint and painted the stems and highlighted the leaves.  

I really love these flowers from Petaloo.  They are from the Mulberry Street collection.  They were also originally white.  I painted magical mica on them and then highlighted them with Fairy Dust glitter in a few places.

Week 2 Round Robin

It's reveal day for week 2 of the Round Robin Challenge at Swirlydoos.  Pat created week 1's page that I had to lift.  I was really inspired by the elements that she used on her page; she used ribbon lacing, punch work and a small cluster of 2 items around her photo.  Her photo was of an artisian spring on her property.  Well, I made sure to include those elements on my page, but I completely changed where they ended up on the page.  Sometimes I just start working on a page and it has a way of taking on a life of its own, and this was one of those times.  I used up the final full sheets of paper from our April Kit.  These papers are from Bo Bunny's Gabrielle Line.....it is really, really nice paper.....*hint hint*
This is a picture of my DD when she was 4.  We have a brook on our property and it runs right next to our house. Our patio goes right up next to it.  She was playing in the water and as you can see, the mud too.  She looked so cute with that little stripe of mud under her eye.

I have always wanted to try ribbon lacing and got so excited when I saw Pat's page.  I really wanted the lacing to be functional on my page and immediately pictured the paper being folded back as if it weren't laced all the way; giving the illusion that the rest of my page was in a pocket of sorts.  I used all of my eyelets on this page but I really like the way they set off the lacing. 

Pat had a second photo on her page.  I took a photo of some tulips that were in bloom in my yard and sandwiched it in between a bird and a small tag.









































I decided to use this gorgeous Dusty Attic frame for my photo rather than matting it.  I painted it white and then using a fan paint brush and Stream Alcohol ink, I created the striations along the length of the chipboard.  I went over it with a light coat of glossy accents and then embellished it with pearls.

Swirlydoos Reveal - Bella Volo

Each month I am forever amazed by our kits at Swirlydoos.  Krissy knows how to treat us right; from the Main Kit right through each Add-On Kit, they build on one another until you end up with EVERYTHING you could possibly need to create some outstanding pages.  This month's kit features Bo Bunny's gorgeous Gabrielle line, flowers from Petaloo and Prima, Dusty Attic, bling, metal embellies, glitter and Smooch OH MY!!!!!

This is a photo of my DD and DH while we were at the Outer Banks a few years ago.  I've been wanting to scrap this for a while.  I created the book cover using the card stock we received. I used the small Prima stamp with text on it that came in the kit along with another small stamp by Prima that has branches on it. I then distressed the cover and finished it off with Vintage Photo ink.  The edge around the window has some Vintage Photo ink and Distress Embossing Powder.  I inked the Dusty Attic hinges and then used a glue pad and the small Prima text stamp.  Then I dusted some gold Perfect Pearls over the stamped image and finished them off with Liquid Pearls that, you guessed it....came in the kit!  I painted the thickers white and then dusted them with the white Fairy Dust Glitter we received.  

This is another photo I took while we were at the beach in the Outer Banks.  My DD was spinning, twirling and dancing as the waves were coming up onto the sand.  I made the flowers out of the card stock and a stamp from Heartfelt Creations.  I used the coordinating Spellbinders Die set and cut them out.  I inked them up a little more and then edged them in Fairy Dust glitter.  Those little Petaloo flowers fit just perfectly with them. 

Our Technique Kit this month is called Chipboard Palooza and not only does it include some gorgeous Dust Attic, but it also includes a white Adirondack Paint Dabber, Copper Alcohol Ink, Smooch Paint, Glitter and lots of little pearls.  

I painted the Dusty Attic gate with the white paint.  Then I went over some areas with the Copper AI, and a few other places using the green Smooch paint.  I finished it off by adding some Distress Embossing powder. A very cool thing happens when you emboss over paint; the heat makes the paint bubble and in the places where your embossing is sparse the paint will actually come to the surface and give you this really cool oxidized appearance.  I decided to embellish it  further by taking apart a cameo broach that came in the kit, and used the pearls and one of the jewels. I embossed a transparency with Ranger Bridal Embossing Tinsel and placed it behind the gate.

This is such a fun photo.  I remember the day I took it.  They don't look like they are up to anything do they? Right......... This is my DD and her cousin.  This paper is the perfect fit for outdoor photos.  I decided to use the same flower stamp and die I used on the page above, but made the flowers a bit more simple.  I inked them up a bit with some Broken China and also painted them using a Magical Mica that we got in the Embellishment Add-On.  Aren't the leaves awesome!  This is another stamp from Heartfelt Creations and again, there is a matching die.  After I stamped and cut them out, I sprayed them with some green Glimmer Mist and crumbled them up while they were still wet.  I hit the wrinkles with Pine Needle distress ink and then edged them using Vintage Photo.  I used a Fantastix and Pine Needle ink to color the veins going down the center.

I made the faux leather tag using Fimo Clay and will be doing a tutorial for Swirlydoos on how to make it.  It looks real doesn't it?

This is a photo I took while we were walking through the trail that connects our property to our neighbor's. I used a Florabella action on it in Photoshop to mute the leaves and make my DD stick out a little more. I kept thinking that this page needed a shot of color, so I took what was left of my card stock and cut the daisies using my Tattered Florals die.  I misted the paper with Lilac Glimmer mist and then added some Dusty Concord distress ink.  I wanted the centers of the flowers to match the beaded centers of the Petaloo flowers.  I added a bead of glue to the center and then lightly dropped some little white beads onto it.  I didn't want to change the shape of the glue so I had to go slow.

I LOVE the cameos that came in the kit.  I think I have added one to nearly every page I made. 

This is my take on this month's sketch.  Once again, it took on a life of it's own.  I broke down and bought a Silhouette.  Overstock was having an amazing sale and it really was just too good to pass up.  While browsing their download store I came across these tags and knew I had to find a way to use them.  Of course I had to make them huge to fit my photos, but I really like them.  You guessed it, more photos from the Outer Banks. This was the first time she had seen the ocean up close and personal and you can tell by the look on her face that she thoroughly enjoyed it.

Valentine Spotlight Kit at Swirlydoos

Well,  Mr. Swirlydoos put together a Valentine Spotlight Kit and I just couldn't resist.  This paper from Echo Park is really quite lovely.  One thing is for certain, there is wayyyyyy more pink paper in this kit than I have ever used in my life!  LOL

This first picture is from our wedding day.  We have a Harley Davidson and we rode that to the reception. Can I just tell you how many yards of fabric I am sitting on?! I am actually sitting way higher than I normally do and my dress was actually pushing up! I could have hidden my head behind the neckline!! My hairdresser used a hairspray that she actually had labeled "Hurricane Spray". My hair didn't move. We had our pictures taken where we had our reception. Not a hair was out of place. LOL It was a blast! A friend of ours was wearing his kilt on his Harley. There were 8 bikes all together. We were a site.

The kit came with some chip board hearts from Kaiserkraft.  I used Tattered Angels Glimmer mist in pink and pearl on the chippie.  I love the little berries and flowers from Petaloo!!

This next page is of my DD when she was 2.  The picture was taken at a local department store.  I wanted this page to look like candy.  I used the chipboard hearts as templates for my paper hearts and used some of my beloved rubber stamps to dress them up a bit.

I used water to get the pleats in my "awing curtain".  The kit came with some really great stickers too!

 

I used some of the coordinating paper and a paper punch to make my flowers.
